HIV Infection Rates in Hetero Black Women

Something feels fishy about the stats here. Look at that again. Black hetero women have infection rates almost on par with gay hispanic men, more than double any other hetero group, and triple hetero white and hispanic women. Take a look at some HIV basic stats here. You can even find metro area breakdowns, and honestly some smaller metro areas in the South have infection rates higher than large metro areas in the North or out West. It's probably from higher concentrations of blacks, but we're talking about smaller cities, not giant metroplexes. It's not condom use that is causing the higher infection rates as black condom use is supposedly higher than other races. This is kind of like the herpes virus where blacks have a significantly higher infection rate as nearly half of all black women have herpes. The links and online articles discuss the same mumbo jumbo of education and awareness, and the blame is also laid at the feet of gay black men on the DL. Is that really all there is? Could there be something more out there? I think there is, but modern PC society won't let it be said.

Let's do some math. Blacks make up 12.5% of America, so there are 38.75 mil blacks. There are slightly more black females than males so let's say 19 mil black males. Per the GSS, 4.4% of black men are gay, so we're down to 835K. Roughly 25% of gay black men have HIV, so we're now down to 209K. There's just one problem with that number: half of all gay men say they have never slept with a woman. We're now down to 104K HIV infected gay black men who could be sleeping with a woman (keep in mind 25K of them have slept with only 1 woman). You mean to tell me that hetero black women are getting HIV at a rate of 5,400 a year from the roughly 80-104K gay black men in the entire nation who have HIV that are on the mysterious "DL". I bring this up because that is a big 'excuse' given as to why black women's HIV infection rates are sooooooo much higher than all other heteros. I'm calling hogwash, but before I do, gay black men, please wrap it up before you kill off each other with the high infection & transmission rates.

Here is my theory of causation behind the high infection rates for black females.

1. HIV has moved down the socioeconomic ladder. It used to be a gay virus, killing all income levels, but with govt awareness programs, education scaring the shit out of a generation, early high death rates (remember the AIDS quilt), smart people (who usually are middle class & up) took preventative measures. It's now poor people, and black women happen to occupy quite a bit of space near or below the poverty line. Black women getting HIV now are way down in the 'out of sight poor' class. We're talking about 5,400 a year nationwide, which could fill a college hockey rink. Let's keep this in perspective: 130K drug & alcohol addicts die a year in America.
2. Rape. White male on black female rape is almost nonexistent in America. If a black woman is getting raped, it is by a black male which just happens to be the only hetero male group on the top infected subgroup chart. You also have higher incarceration rates of black males, which is where some hetero black males probably get HIV. It would be interesting if police rape kits also automatically tested women for HIV. There are thousands of black women raped each year. Why doesn't anyone bring this up? Oh wait, it would expose the insane rape rates of black males.
3. Informal prostitution. How many out of sight poor black women are turning tricks part time? How many are 'barter' prostitutes? How many are forcing their johns to use condoms? Giving hummers to anyone or everyone in the neighborhood for some scratch opens one up to anything that the neighborhood carries.

3 Birthdays

Besides containing Valentine's Day, this week had 3 consecutive days that were birthdays for my two grandfathers and the one great-grandmother who was with me the longest. Their birthdays were 3 days in a row, which made things easier for me as I grew up. They helped shape me, and made me who I am as an adult. I had all 3 of them for 22 years, and now I am down to 1.

There are the things we get from nurture that they are responsible for like a love of history, an understanding of how horrible the millwork could be before worker protection laws, feeling the need to work for a better tomorrow, working hard, following the law, believing in God, and knowing that sometimes you have to fight. These bits I learned from their stories. Sense of duty, love of family, sense of sharing, the importance of remembering are things I learned by watching and listening to them. There are also the things that I understand as I grow older that are from them through nature. I fall in love pretty hard. I love deeply. I can carry a grudge like no one else. I can hate pretty passionately. I'm a passionate person. I constantly try to make order out of the chaos that is life. I had all 3 for 22 years, 2 for 30, and now I am just down to 1.

The Future Singularity and Post-Singularity for the Left Behind

The future singularity will be a combination of immersive VR with our social media hooked in. What will happen is the immersive VR will be programs and possibly freespace fun. This will be temporary, and then more and more time and spirit will be spent there. Folks already tweet, text and facebook update from anywhere. This will get linked with immersive VR for a hedonistic playground. The top 1%-3% worldwide will make the leap. That will be existence. People of the 1-3% bodies will decompose to no affect to us because by then we will be uploaded in a self running system. I see this being wide enough to contain all tinkerers. It might be 50 years from now. The soul upload to the cloud.

What of the people left behind? They will be in a 1920s level system with battles over the basics. So many folks will have been uploaded, but taken whole, that others won't know how to run the system. It will devolve to an agrarian type system with Christianity and Islam doing battle for societal systems. The America pieces left behind will be Christendom's domain. Asia's western remnant with the Middle East and Europe will be Islam. Europe will have some Christ based outposts, but they will probably pull back and move to the Americas. China will be another edge of the battle with the ones who don't get uploaded being split from the Muslim western spots to whatever has built up for Christianity there. Africa will be a battle as the Muslim North intermingles with the Christian areas in sub-Sahara Africa. This is why Nigeria and Chad are on the edge for fights amongst religions. Brutal fighting in those areas. They will be reactionary movements. It will be interesting to see if they make it to a singularity point.

What could also happen is once the 1-3% worldwide make it to the cloud upload, they could gain knowledge to spread the singularity existence to others. It could be a mass upload, which then leads to a shared existence as all become small pieces of a giant mesh. Each in control of time and space spent by themselves, with their loved ones present or not. All become individual subjective experiences of one objective existence.

How & Why Paleo Eating Works for Me

Have you heard of the Paleo diet? If you are a normal American, you most likely have no clue what the paleolithic eating is. In a nutshell, it is the belief in eating like our ancestors did for the millions of years prior to agriculture. This style is similar to Atkins as carbohydrates have a low profile. Carbs from bread, pasta, cereals are shunned, but carbs from fruits and veggies are OK. Think of how hunter gatherers ate, and you will have a good picture of the daily routine for paleo eaters. In recent months I have toyed with it, but after the holidays, I tried a modified paleo approach to my food. It has had a tremendous impact to my daily well being. I am not a strict paleo eater, and this has helped me best balance health with happiness in my daily diet.

Power of Music

If you've read this blog, you know I love music. Cheese music, serious music, classical music, pop music and rock 'n' roll all have a place in my heart. I associate songs with people, moments in time, eras, places, etc. I recently was wondering why a cousin of mine loved David Bowie so much, and I asked him. This is his response:

"Motherf*cker is amazing. He continually pushed and shaped music in the 70s. Especially in the latter years like Low, Heroes & Lodger. Especially Low though. That shit is awesome, and he was creating new sounds with Brian Eno. A lot of those drum sounds from like the 80s were invented by Bowie and Eno. Besides all his pushing boundaries and shit I just think he's a great artist and someone who's music has always been a way to help me in some way".

This statement comes from a man born more than a decade after the era of Bowie he is discussing. This is the beautiful power music can have.

My closest comparison is Seger. I love Seger's music, he speaks to me, and my favorite Seger songs were out before my birth.

R2-D2 Alcohol cabinet

There should be an R2-D2 alcohol cabinet. Most Star Wars fans are adults now, and I bet a decent chunk of them would like an R2-D2 alcohol cabinet. The cylinder part of R2 would hold bottles. The top dome part would be on a hinge and swing open to reveal glasses, shakers, etc.
